88 1500 Problems

I just bought a 88 Cheyenne 2 wheel drive with a 4.3. Theres a few problems with it... First of all, its got 132,000 miles on it.. and it burns quite a bit of oil, about a quart every 2 days. The guy that sold it to me said he thinks its the valve cover seal. It's got an auto tranny, and shifting from 1st to 2nd theres a big kick, the tranny fluid was pretty high, so we lowered some and that still hasn't helped.. so i'm thinkin now that it's the filter. And finally.. it's realllly loud, and the guy said the donuts are bad but i dunno if i believe it.. it's only out of the passenger side exhaust where it's loud. So we don't know if it's the whole pipe coming from the manifold or what.. if anyone has had any of these problems please reply... THANKS!

If it was leaking that much oil from a valve cover seal you would have no trouble seeing it leaking out . If you can't find any large leaks the next thing you should check is the cylinder compression with a guage . Is the engine smoking and what does the oil look like ? On the trans some of them do bump between first and second and its considered pretty much normal if its not to bad . A fluid and filter change can't hurt .
