492 fuelie pricing
One set of 492 fuelie heads, one head is complete with valves, springs, retainers, only 3 rouny-round races on it. The other head is bare, needs to be milled. Ive been offered these sonofaguns for 200.00. Is this a halfway decent deal or should I wait till Santy Claus brings me some?

I had a set once, best running heads I ever had. Used a dished piston for the street, made all kinds of power in a 350 powered Monza. If they aren't cracked, I would go for them. Brian

Those old Z28/LT1 haeds were the hot ticket in the day....but a bit outdated, & for the cost of rebuild, you can be almost into new aftermarket stuff. crazyL

The old heads are nice..but they can get expensive quick..it is very possible to have a grrand into the heads b4 you are all done. You may only have a total of 500 bucks into them this time, but if you want to add screw in studs or bigger valves in the future(to bring them into the 21st century) it starts to add up...all of that being said..Ive been there done that...save for some nice aftermarkt new heads..JMO

i`ve had both, and it goes both ways. aftermarket is the way to go. i picked up a set of s/r torker world heads for $550 new on a deal and have been extremely pleased with them. i`ve put $400 into some old double humped heads and got good power too. if you can go aftermarket for a bit more i would do it though.

my 100th post! how much do you guys estimate it would cost to mill/rebuild the one head? I might as well do both, just so the valves etc. match up...

congrats. i think they told me it was around $180 to redo mine, per head. that was a basic rebuild with new/reground valves. the guy at our local napa does them here and has been doing them for years.
