Why do my wipers come on by themselves? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've replaced the motor, and the switch, but the wipers will still come on by themselves while I'm driving down the road. (I have a dash-mounted intermittant wiper switch.) While I'm asking, I can't figure out the settings for each position of the switch--any advice?

It's called the charm of driving an old truck. My 79 K5 did that. Sometimes it would do it 2-3 times in a day....sometime go a month. My wife and I just laughed. Its either the dash switch or the Intermit timer modual.

mine come on if i am driving my truck for more than 15 mins, they swipe once and quit.. sometimes they will stay on but rarely. i almost dont see it anymore, and buy cheap wipers,

Mine also swipe every once in a while. I just shake my head and laugh...I just figure its part of my old trucks character.

Mine did the same thing. I installed a new intermittent timing module that I got on E-Bay and it took care of it. You said you have a dash mounted wiper switch like mine so the module is plugged right into the back of the wiper switch under the dash. Just make sure you get the module for the dash mounted switch. The module for the turn signal wiper controls are different.

So the intermitant module is in the wiper switch?

Its kind of embarrassing when you are sitting in traffic, the sun is shining, it is 90 degrees and then your wipers take a swipe across the windshield, lol. I just unplugged mine and use RainX.

It's not "in" the switch, it's connected to the switch....

Lol, I had a '77 that did that too. I just said the hell with it and kept driving it. Sold it about 4 months later and bought my '86. Same story though - drive it for a while and the wipers would cycle once and it'd stop again.

Mine do it when I use the left turn signal. I guess mine is in the colunm

I was going to ask the same thing. My 78 wipers come on when I use the rocker switch on the dash to switch gas tanks. I think I will also change the module.
