gettind rid of tailgate chains
Does anyone have any suggestions or modifications that they have done?

depends if you want it to be functional or not? they make sleeves for them. my buddy hooked his on another hook @ the bottom so they won`t swing. if you don`t want a chain just put a bolt in it or shave it up.

why not use some straps from a newer chevy or have some made?

The best chain replacement kit I have seen is one by WOW Products @ www.wow-products.com

what about the cables like newer fords with a set belt to hold the gate shut. if i can find it i will get a link from the 60-66 board.

Thanks for the help. I like the boat latch also, That looks easy enough. Just drill a couple holes and your set.

I like the Mar-K kits. Not cheap ($405.00) but you get a new tailgate (your choice of flush smooth or Bowtie), caps for the bed sides, linkage/hardware and a internal handle. can't link directly to page. Go to Mar-K , then select tailgates, and then you'll see a bunch of different options. There is two in the list that say "with handle and latch mechanism" in the description. Click on one of them for a picture.
