anyone know what Chevy a N/P 207 came in?

Reason i ask is i just got a Jeep Wrangler with a TPI V8 and it has a 700R4 and a N/P 207..The guy told me the 207 and the 700R4 were out of the same vehicle..I want to upgrade to a stronger transfer but was wondering what i should look for..The 207 has the POS transfer shifter with a buttom on the top of the knob you have to push to get it to move to 4L,4H,N,ect..and the Jeep has a body lift and a transfer case drop on it and the shifter only sticks inside the cab 2" or so.And i have searched for a longer shifter for the 207 with no luck..

So does anyone have any info on this setup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Steve

NP 205's came in ford chevy and dodge fullsize rigs. Find a GM NP 205 that was mated to a th350. The output spline on a th350 and a 700r4 are the same. You might have to have the leangth of your dlines changed but thats not too expensive. NP205's our one of the strongest tcases out there.

Here are a few pics. The jeep uses a Painless harness, and the ECM is mounted as high up under the dash as you can get it.

Also on the first pic you can see how short the transfer shifter is..I keep it pulled off till i need to use 4wd then i screw the shifter on..it needs to be about 4-5" higher to make it comfortable and to be able to run a boot on it..

remove the body lift, and get some smaller more agressive tires. i never did understand the point of having big mall terrains.

thanks for your opinion but i'm about to lift it even higher and put 38's on it..I'm not a rock crawler or redneck that likes to go out in the woods everynight shining for deer.I like the jeep cause it's fun.and even though it would still be fun on 33's it's normal..every jeep around here is on 33's i want something that stands out..The roughest it will ever see is a trip to Ocala national forest for some trail riding.that's about it..

But again thanks for your opinion on the Jeep..

Any way to weld an extenton to your shifter and then put the handle on that? There has to be sopmething you can do with it.

The only problem is the 207 has the button in the middle of the shifter you have to push to allow you to move it..IF i could do away with the button then it would be easy to extend it.I'm not sure if i can do away with it.It might not want to stay in gear if i do.the button moves the shiftergate detent, without it there would be nothing to hold it in the gear i put it in..

Also i just found out the N/P 205 has a pass side front Drive shaft..The jeep is a Drivers side..So unless i switch out front end that won't help me..What i did find was a N/P 241 it is a direct bolt in from what i have read so far..Anyone know what years would work with a 700R4..seems like it's in the 88+ fullsize GM that seem right?

Thanks
Steve

yes, the NP241 you want came in 88+ IFS trucks with driver drop. There was another version of the NP241 that came in V-series suburbans and blazers, that has the passenger side drop, so obviously steer clear of that one.
or, you could make the shifter longer by adding tube to the stock shifter.

Oh, and Ford NP205's are driver drop...but good luck mounting one of those to the r4 cheaply!

It would be nice if we knew where you live, because I found a NP241 in PA for sale for $25 or 2- 12 packs of Bud Light bottles.

LOL, nevermind, I did not read all the way down. I see you already found that guy.

another option is the 208C it has the same dimensions as the 207 but is a little lower geared. the 207 is what the s-10's had in them. after you lift it (go with a suspention lift and not the body lift - old man emu is one of the best lift kits for Jeeps)
and get the 38's give me a holler - I am looking for some 33's to put on my suburban.

The jeep already has a 4" BDS SUA lift along with a Shackle reverse up front which adds another 1" of lift. Then the 3" body lift..so it has 7" in rear and 8" in the front.it needs a set of shackles to even it up in the rear.they will come after i do the rest of it...

And it's on 35/12.50/15's's now.i am thinking of going to a SOA and running 38's but now i have decided to keep 35's on it but to run 2" springs and a SOA so i can get good flex.

Any idea what the 208C came out of?

Thanks
Steve

early 80's to late 80's full size (my 88 suburban Diesel has one) still a chain drive so not as tough as a 205 but it will bolt right up to your tranny.
