68 "Slant Nose" C10 So. Cal Lien sale

Last October I sold "gave" my beloved 68 fleetside to a good friend. At the time I thought I could have gotten 2 or 3 thousand for it as it was in good shape with a low milege 350 engine, 3 speed column shifter, good wheels and all good body parts . As it turns out, my buddy never registered it or got insurance. I received a notice from a lien seller that the truck had been recently towed due to expired tags and was up for lien sale in order to get back the towing and storage fees. As of today, these fees amount to about $300 and will increase $25 a day for storage. I hate to see my old truck just get sold for scrap, so, for whoever is interested, here is the information.

Truck VIN ...............CE148S214722

License Number ........45783N

Lienholder................Action & Southland Towing (714) 891-6726
Address...................7600 Industrial Way, Stanton CA, 90680

Date of Sale............ 09/27/04
Location..................7600 Industrial Way, Stanton CA, 90680

Agent acting for lienholder ......Ritter Lien Sales South, Inc. (619) 583-6974

I am sorry that I do not have any photos of the truck, I was a good vehicle. I had had the interior redone and a decent cd player installed.

Oh well. Just thought I would put the information out there.

Regards,

John Craig

John, first off let me welcome you to the board. Second, could you please explain to us why you wouldn't buy your "beloved" '68 back for $300 ??? Just the new interior is worth that.

Just wondering!!

First, thanks for the welcome. I did consider buying the truck back, it was my daily driver for over 20 years. I have had two replacement engines put in in that time. Three years ago I had drive shaft replaced. I kept that truck up. I even had it repainted and put in a oak relpacement wood bed. I really liked that truck. I got married though, and purchased a 2003 mazda mpv. I just did not have the room in the garage for what is essentally a "hobby" vehicle. I do not want to paint a false picture though. The truck was a daily driver and four years ago I drove it to Las Vegas on vacation but there are still little things that come up. It is harder to find a mechanic willing to work on such an old vehicle. The paint still shines up good but the left front fender had to be repainted and it is not a perfect match. There are some small chips on the paint surface here and there but not too noticible. The interior has good carpeting, a headliner and a good bench seat but I had this work done at an auto upolstery shop so it is not stock original. I am not selling this truck, I signed over the title to my friend who obviously does not care (that is another story I will not go into here). I just wanted to get the information out because I had a long history with this vehicle and I hope someone will use it and not turn it into scrap metal. I know it sounds kind of corny, but that is the way that I feel

Regards,

John Craig

Now it makes sense to me ! Sounds like someone has the opportunity to pick up a nice truck for a cheap price.

Good Luck, John. Hope it goes to a good home !

I hope so too. If anyone knows of someone in the Southern California area that might be interested. Link them to my post and they can get the info. I have some of the receipts from the last engine I put in and I think I still have the code for the paint.

Just having the info may not be good enough. Would you be willing to go down to the yard and sign for it. You would have to show that you are the registered owner by showing your drivers license. If so I would be interested in paying the storage for it. You would probably have to get a duplicate title also to sign it over to me. Chuck

For me, getting title would be just as difficult as the next guy. I sold the truck to my friend and at that time signed over the title to him and then submitted a release of liability to the California DMV. The only reason that I received the lien sale notice is because my friend did not re-register the vehicle in his name. On the official documents I am listed as the "registered owner" and my friend is listed as the "legal owner" I did make copies of everything when I sold it to him. I suppose I could try to contact him but after what happened, I do not feel like seeing him right now.
I don't know what else to tell you, I will help if I can.

Regards,

John Craig

John, not much else you can do. If you say you are list as the registered owner and your friend is the legal owner only you and he can get the truck released from impound. But if you are not listed as the legal owner it would be a waste of time to do that. If you were down as the legal/registered owner I would pay the 3 bones to pick it up.

Sorry man..

That is usually the problem. The owner thinks it is worth $300 or whatever (pick a number) and the towing and storage fees are $300 (probably going up by about $50-$75/day) for a total of $600 which might be more than it is worth. You will still have to get a bill of sale and release of interest (on the title) from the owner of record.

I had the same situation with my first truck. I waited for 3 months and bought it at the auction for $55 with a clean title from the impound company. If the original owner would have tried to claim the truck it would have cost him over $700 in tickets, towing and fees.

It will be cheaper at the auction, even if you get into a bidding war!

The truck is is in great condition, and is well worth $700. I think you could sell it for $1500 no prob, but then again im still selling my 67!

I had the same thing happen here in Texas.
I went to the local police station where it was impounded and showed them my drivers liscense as proof of ownership then they gave me a piece of paper that I took to the pound and paid the fees.
I got the truck back and sold it again.
This time I did change the title over at the DMV before letting it go.
If the truck is titled in your name it is still yours and the other guy cannot get it out only you can.

the P.O sent a release of interest to the d.m.v, so he cannot get the truck out! i dont know how much he wants for it, but i do know the truck could be got for under $1000!

Is it a long bed or short bed? How long ago did you sign over the title?
