Question TH400 id

I parted a 69 motorhome this weekend and i thought it had a th400 trans in it. But now im not sure. The pan is shaped correctly for a 400, but the out put shaft is smaller than normal. I have a th400 yoke that i slide into the extension housing when im taking them out so fluid don't go everywhere. But its too big and woulnt go in. A buddy said that all TH400 have the same size shaft and that its not a th400. The tag on the side says cp-69..69 must be the year. Any body know what the CP means???

i cant really help but ive got a th400 in my 67, when i dropped the pan to do a filter change it was an odd shaped metal filter with a pickup on it like the type in an oilpan, turns out its a real old style tranny, maybe yours is like mine?!?

I havent had the pan off yet, so i dont know what the filter looks like. I'll check that though.
Another strange thing about this trans is it dosent have park. It dosent go past R. And the column indicator dosent have park on it. I think its a motorhome thing.

It could be a th375, I know that sounds crazy, but I bought one as a 400, and sold it as 400, but when the guy went to rebuild it hecame back saying it was a 375??? I had never heard of one but this may be a possibility....

The difference is the outside diameter of the yoke. There are two different sizes. The output shaft is the same size on a (375) and (400).

Some of the one tons had no park...Pont in southern Ohio has a make-shift one ton GMC Longhorn (A 133 IN w.b. cab/chassis with an 8 1/2 foot bed tossed on) His rig has no park.
Have you tried to find park on it with the shifter disconnected? I've always been told that Park was there...you just couldn't access it becouse of the park-less shifter.

Can't help on the tranny ID...is there a kick down cable? If no, then we know it isn't a TH350...not that that helps much at the moment.

The first few years of TH400's had a different yoke size.

My TH400 is a 68 model and my trans guy called me when he was building it and asked me if I wanted to reuse the orginal yoke or switch to the common type one used on the later years. He explained to me that the earlier TH400 yokes were smaller than the newer ones. We replaced the tailhousing with a newer one and I bought the normal TH400 yoke from my driveshaft shop.

....once the early years were finished the TH400 ended up with three very different but basic tailhousings. Our trucks used the shortest one for the most part, but depending on the vehicle you might have a longer one.

Also, bell housings were different between different makes. Pontiac, Jeep, and even Rolls Royce had their own bell housing configs. Chevy is signature with the two points at the top, while Jeep is perfectly round.

Best way to tell is by the shape of the pan, and the valve body/filter config. You can also get the number off of the front pump (if you have it out of the vehicle), or off the tag on the side, or the VIN stamped just over the pan.

The tranny in my truck is a 67 TH400, and the model # starts off with CA 67, CA being a TH400 and '67 is the year. Yep, it has the weird filter that looks like a muffler with a turndown.

well, the pan is shaped like a th400.
The extension housing is the short version.
It definatly does not have park. Even at the trans.
It has electric kick down.
The yoke measures 1.700
It has the funky filter set up.
It has the CP-69 code.
And even though i couldn't find the vin number under 35 years of crud....I think its a early th400.
Thanks guys, I knew I could get the answer here!

Oh, and the original 350 motor has a steel crank in it...YES!! And nice doors. And nice grill surround.
All for $150
Anybody need a fridge?
