Speedometer, Odometer, and Trip gauges DON'T work
Does anyone have any clues to fix the problem. The truck is a 1989 k1500 with a 350/auto. Any help will be appreciated.

The only fix I know of for these Dash Clusters is to buy the freshly rebuilt one I'm selling on the Parts Board!
It's completely rebuilt with a warrantee and 1 mile on the odometer and ready to go. 72longbed

First thing since you didn't mention it would be to check the speedo cable or sensor at the tranny. Sorry I forget what years had cables and which ones were electronic. If yours is still a cable that maybe what wrong with it. Tranny sensors on the electonic version normally goes out before the speedo itself. I don't know if what the check for the tranny sensor is though.

72longbed-- i am actually want to buy a cluster, one out of a '91 to swap into my '89. then i can have a tach along with a speedo.
Palf70Step-- i asked a family friend who is also a mechanic said it was the Vehicle speed sensor. The funny part is that when i was going to school, all of the gauges started working again. I think something may have got a little dirty, so i am not going to mess with it until it acts up again. Cam

Check the VSS as the mechanic suggested.. The VSS is on the driver's side of the trans.
Then check the output from The DRAKE (little white box behind the glove box next to the ECM). You will more than likely have to have a OBD I reader cause you will have to check it while driving.. |
