Dual elect fans on the cheap!

I just installed a Painless relay/ thermo kit on my 69. I am running a pair of 14" Flex a lite elect fans.....one from the kids totalled ranger, & 1 new fan. I have a buck 50 in the complete "mess".....90 on 1 new fan, & 60 on the Painless wiring. The fans shroud was built from a steel shelf, & bolts to the stock mounts(no bolts or screws to the rad tin). it was a goof off day, with lots of beer, so i havent had the old chev out on the street, to test her out .....but she idled @ 185 - 190 for an hour & a 1/2! that auto meter guage is screwed into the Dr side head, & the sensor is in the intake. Just for info, the temp runs a little hotter @ the head vs the intake manifold......its not a bunch tho, I have a 185 in , 170 out sensor kicking @ about 190 in, & 175 out crazyL

what kind of sensor are you using. i looked around and all i could find is a 195 and a 165. the 195 makes my truck run about 205-210 and the 165 killed my alternator with the fan running all of the time. i had some one tell me that i had to open up the drivers side of my fan shroud to get more air flow. what do you think? its just one 16" fan....P.S. Pictures?

The wiring kit was a part # 30103 on the Painless line. the fans are said to kick @ 185, & off @ 170.....its still in the experamental mode, but any problems, i will post. The little bit of diff on off /on, i am sure is due to the autometer guage temp sensor being in the head vs the intake. crazyL Just a thought, the hottest side of your rad is the dr side......with a 16" single fan, I would be tempted to "center it" in the shroud. best of luck, crazyL

A lot of single fan cars come from the factory with multiple holes cut in the shroud to allow more air flow at speed. They just put hinged rubber flaps over the holes so at rest or very low speeds the fan will pull air through the shroud and cause the flaps to seal so all the air pulls through the radiator.
