Belt Squeak

I recently went from a long waterpump setup to a short waterpump on my 350 and now I have a belt squeaking when I rev it up. I bought a new alternator and power steering belt, sanded the pulley grooves slightly and I still have the squeak. I bought the alternator 5 months ago. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

I put a pair of brand new belts on my truck a few months ago that squeeked no matter what I did. I replaced them with another brand and they've been silent since.

I had the same experience as TX, I went to Gates belts & no more noise, cost twice as much. I asked the parts guy why he didn't sell me the better ones, he said most folks want the cheap ones. I would try to sell the better/higher ones myself, but he is paid hourly not commission-he don't care. Brian

I had something like that when I when I swapped a '71 for a '93 350.... I had to go with the longer alternator bracket- produced more tension on the belt.

I did notice something last night when after I posted this. I was revving up the truck and the belt was bouncing up then settling back down. It only lasted for maybe 1 second. What does that mean?

Thanks
