Out Touring...

...and I spotted this beast at the road side. Can't tell what year it really is as the owner wasn't around to ask and it was locked. Has no engine, but trans and transfer are there. Looks reasonably solid for this area. Can't tell if it's an original 3/4 ton 4x4 Burb. Frame does look legit if it is but has LOTS of mods as they were using this for Tractor/Truck pulling. Interior is bare all original seats are long gone. Has a VERY NICE 69-70 Grille I'd like to have if he'll part with it...

Anyone wanna toss out some $$$ figures in CDN funds you think this is possibly worth? If it's for sale cheap I wouldn't mind picking it up, but as stated the only thing I have an instant use for is the grille. Other than that it would be a cool project but would also be a very big project to reverse all that has been modified to make it road worthy again.

...

...here's a rear end pic. It looked funny to me as to the placement of the shocks/perches on the axle. Is that likely another mod for Pulling? What type of rear end is this? Any idea what gears might be? There was no tag...

Is this a NP205 Transfer? From inside it looked to have an NP205 shift pattern shifter knob.

Brian, that is a NP205 transfer case and a corporate 14 bolt full floater rear axle. Any pics of the front axle by chance? Those hubs kinda look like dana 60 hubs to me.
Also, any pics of the tranny? it may be a Th400 from a 1 ton 4x4.

I would grab it, the body isnt even in that bad of shape!

Adam sorry no Pics of the front axle as I was sure it was just a DANA 44 but maybe I should go back to get a pic to be sure. I did take a pic of the tranny but it turned out blurry and was off center (I will post it tho). I'm pretty sure it was a 4 Speed...

Adam, believe me there is so much temptation to grab this bad boy up...even for all it's faults.

Oh, and I am about 75% sure that is a dana 60 front axle. in the pic of the transfer case, I can barely make out the 4 nuts holding the bottom of the knuckle on, which retain the bearing for the kingpin. I compared it to pics of my dana 60 and they look the same.

Did you count the number of u bolts holding the axle on? lol, i am about as excited as you are for this

If that is a DANA 60 and from the info and Pics provided, does anyone have any estimates as to how much this Burb should be worth?

Looks pretty good for a Canadian truck, if I didn't have 4 projects already I'd be asking where it was.

I would say it's worth in the 2000-3000 dollar range. I wouldn't really know tho, there is 1 burb in town here, it's a 2wd and has cancer like I've never seen before

More Pics...

I was on my way to the last local cruise night and swung by to get a few more pics of the beast. Front Axle is DANA 60?...was covered in too much surface rust for me to make out that little "60" on the pumpkin too be 100% sure. Was able to gain access to inside as doors were ajar this time. Floors are not too bad. Plywood rear floor, Upper Hatch looks great from outside but is trashed on the inside. Took pics of Glove box option sheet...it is a Cali-burb that USED to be Rust Free. Vin # started CKE2...so it is a legit '72 3/4 ton 4x4 Burb. Fairly well optioned too but most options are MIA. Stuff like "No-Spin Rear Axle, 4 Speed Trans, Guages, Am Radio, Dual Battery, Tinted Glass,Front & Rear Chrome Bumpers,Dark Green Paint, etc.etc"

The body is pretty decent still as most of the rust is confined to the lower quarters of the truck(lots of surface rust on back side of lower panels anyway).

Does anyone know if this thing would be legal to drive on the highway with all those frame mods?? She's basically solid enough for a daily driver if you dropped an engine in there and hooked up the lights/wiring.

Still wasn't able to get a Price $$$ yet as guy is a truck driver(on the road at this time).

Woo hoo! I kinda discovered how to lighten the pic myself!
anyway, you are in business, it is for sure a dana 60 front axle. it is also the single rear wheel version, which is more desireable. The axle alone is worth $1000 if it works.

That's weird, it was really dark last night and it didn't show you had responded
Brian, it means that it is from a one ton truck with single rear wheels. it measures 69.5" from where one wheel mounts up, to the same point on the other side. the original dual rear wheel dana 60's have a different hub that puts the wheels out even farther apart, which is undesireable. it looks like someoune parted out a srw one ton truck and just bolted the axles under that burb.

EDIT: I think that if you bought that, you should cut off all the p/o fabbed traction bars. the brackets on the front axle hang lower than the diff does!

Thanks for that info Adam! I hardly know anything about DANA 60's to know there were different widths available too. Great info, and yes if I end up grabing this up it will take months to cut off all the fabbed up traction bars etc. off the frame and axles!

You can also teel the front is a 60 because it only has one u bolt on the passenger side .... The other bolt's thread into the axle houseing.. The driver's side is the same as anyother axle with 2 u-bolt's... Nice find btw ...
