How to get this Front? Newbie here

Hi There !
Im new to the forum here and just surfed the web for 73-87 Stuff. Im going to buy a 80 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Deluxe pickup Fleetside Long Bed. The owner is fixing up the bed in these days and i can pick the baby up i about two weeks.
Heres a picture:

And here is the deal..im gonna change the front either to 89-91 Suburbans or to the front in the picture below...i know that i must change the fenders, inner fenders, hood etc..to the 89-91 Sub front.. But what must i change to get this front? and when came this front? and how long did it go up on the 70s?

to get that front, you must change the grill, grill shell, headlight bezels, and the panel below the grill.(The one that houses the turn signals) I think that is it though.

Yes, 78ChevySilverado is correct, that is all you need to do. Changing the 80 front to a 81+ front requires much more work. You need fenders, inner fenders, hood, core support, HL bezels, headlights, grill...basically a complete new front end. You would also have to modify your firewall to make the hood hinges work.

The easiset route for you, buy my Blazer (the one you show in your second pic)! Not only would you have the front end you need, you would have a 2WD Blazer too.

Do you have to change the inner fenders to go from 73-80 to 81-87 ( or backwise ) too ?

hmmm add this to my list of odd tastes in 73-87. I like the look of the 73-80 overall front ends, grill, fenders, etc, over the 81-87. To me, 81-87 seems less aggressive, almost, well, girly {no offense to females} The horizontal side markers don't float my boat either, same with the square headlights.

I wouldn't change it. The 80 model with the 73-79 looking grill but square headlights has got to be fairly rare since it was only done that one year. It's something different, why would you want to change it to something that a million other chevy trucks have. I like the 73-80 fronts better too. Seems like they have more style I guess.

Yeah more style is the word. Since in 81 EVERY GM vehicle went to square headlights and the horizontal markers. And that still is the rule; rectangular headlights. Ever seen the Lil' Scrappy "No Problem" video? Square headlights

Well..i have checked up the price on a complete used front from a Sub here in Norway..and its 1000$ (and thats with private persons...junkyards take 1500$) -im thinking of keeping it as it is..or go for the round headlight grille. Is there any billet grills for my kind of front on the marked?
By the way..im picking up the car this weekend And im buying it for 3150$..we dont have dollars in Norway...but it would be that price in $

The new bed is on
My plans:
In the first period im going to paint it silkmate black
Rollpan
Euro-taillights
Bed-cover in steel
Clear headlights and markerlights
New triple chrome frontbumper
Smooth rear window

Shave: driprails-fuel door-doorhandles-doorlocks-mirrors-markerlights on fenders-hoodmolding.

Anyone here thats shaved the driprails? A lot of welding after the cutting?

I don't know about your truck, but on my 79, the drip rails were screwed on. After removing them, I filled the holes and ground smooth. I also filled the seams along the roof of the cab on the sides and rear. Really smooths the look of the cab. I will post before and after pics in the next day or 2.

What did you use to fill the holes? Did you weld or just use body filler? I'm doing this on my 90 suburban and not sure what to do. Also how did it come out?

You should NEVER use body filler to close up holes...it will only crack in the future and look terrible. Since the holes where the drip rails were are small, I assume they were filled in with a wire feed welder...but that is just my guess.

I find it a shame you live too far from me ( almost 1500 kms ) , as I would give you my complete 1982 front end for your 1980 one...

BTW , are you living in the south or in the north of Norway ?
