I have some Questions? Need Help!

Can anybody tell me why the stepside was the standard model? I am new to 67-72 trucks and trying to learn as much as possible. I have a 68 C10 stepside I am trying to get as much of the CST parts as possible. I lucked out and found a striped out 50th and got the steering column. Everything else was gone.

the step side wasn't the standard model. It had it's own model number.
