292 w/3spd what is it worth? or is it
I have a 292 w/3spd transmission out of my 67, this creature has less than 100,000 miles on it but the p/o welded the crank pulley to the crank. I don’t know why but it is. Is this thing worth any thing or should I just plant flowers in it. [Long funny story about flowers. For a later date.] carb was new from AutoZone but after a year it leaks. Didn’t know if it’s worth anything or is it another yard ornament
p.s. it has been out of the truck for a year

I met a guy at the marina in Des Moines, WA that had just refinished an old boat. It had one or two Chev 292's in it. His buddy had a similar boat that needed a 292 Chev but they were complaining about how rare these engines are...read expensive! I gave him the address of this board to come and look for a replacement 292.
Now, I don't know if they are just not looking very hard or what but it does not seem to me that a 292 is all that rare or tough to find. If the boaters are wanting them and consider them rare, I would look into acquiring around the marinas in your area to see if there is any truth to what this guy said. I would not use it as a flower pot...someone will need it eventually. Store it properly and wait for a buyer.

gm 292 l-6's are one of the toughest and best engineered engines ever produced anywhere-a legendary torque monster. these are not what i consider rare. most hobbyists actually pull these motors in favor of the v-8-which quite a few people would argue is a mistake-especially if you use your truck to actually work.we have posted threads about these motors before and i have yet to hear anything bad about them. i would keep the motor as it's monetary value does not equal its actual value in my opinion.

Good blocks are tough to find around here. A lot of them got used as irrigation pump motors. Sounds like the cranks toast, but if the head and manifolds are good the engine should bring around $300, but that's here. I'm looking for one myself, but you're too far away.
