if you want to keep the stock qjet carb, you will need to keep some of the other things too. the later qjets like yours are electronicly controlled. if you were to buy a new carb(holley, edelbrock, older qjet, etc..) you could do away with everything.

headers you can run but you will need to get rid of your A.I.R. pump.

wow i just visited your web. Now thats pretty. I have a 56 auto with tilt front and all that stuff. But back to problem at hand. I don't want the pump anyway. I will be towing my 56 to Peagon Forge if i can get this swat done in time. its a 350 / 30 over with a mild torc cam from crane.

No, his carb is not electronically controlled. It will only have the dual capacity pump system. In order for it to function correctly, it will need the temp switch that is in the thermostat housing.

It's not unless you have a Cali truck. It will have a couple wires going to the passenger side front of the carb from the temp switch mounted in the thermostat housing. This is for the dual capacity pump. It's not electronically controlled. If you have a California truck, with a computer, then yes, it a computer carb.

Eric,

there were none except for the Cali trucks.

yes, but the easiest way would be to take the radiator support/grill and all that stuff off.

it would be easier to remove the whole front clip if you're into removing sheetmetal. the rear bolts for the fenders are far easier to get to than the core support bolts. i have never removed a front clip for engine / trans removal. always removed the hood, and pulled the engine and trans together out that way. never had any problems.

engine removal

when I replaced my motor all I had to do was unbolt the springs from the hood. This allowed the hood to raise high enough to allow the motor and trans to come out.
