Overdrive
Ok, I've seen billions of threads on the 700r4. What I want to know about is the 200r4 (2004r, 2000r4?)
What does it take to get one of those; a) beefed up a little, and b) in my truck. Crossmembers? Throttle cables? etc... Todd |

The TV cable is the same issue as the 700.
The lock up s the same issue as the 700. Place cross member in th400 location drive shaft from a th350 (short shaft) truck will fit right in there....yolk and all. The 200 4R has a daul bolt pattern bellhousing, so it can be used on most any GM motor. The one thing to look at when grabbing one, (If you are going the junk yard route) is the torque converter. Some of the GM motors habe completely flat fly wheels, and others had a raised spot where the verter bolts...you need to match to what ever your fly wheel is. (I think chevy has a small raised pad on the flywheel??? It has been a while since I paid attention) As far as beefing one up... No clue. As far as beefing up.... |

from what I hear they can be built to survive behind a somewhat healthy small block. a BB is out of the question. not enough clutch surface to take the torque.

Bowtie Overdrives, http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml. The 200 has a 2.74 first the 700 a 3.06, but the 200 has .67 OD and the 700 has a .70 OD. It think all of the Bowtie Transmissions come with the 3.06/.70 set, even in the 200's

I would assume that the drive shaft from a 3 speed would fit also??? I put in my crossmember using a th350 for a reference, will I have to move it?
I am planning on getting a 2004R for my Jimmy, it will mate up to the 250, I found an ad for one being sold locally, they say there is only 20,000 miles on it and it is out of a Buick Lasabre, what would be a decent price for one of these? |

The reason I was thinking of going with a 200 4R is do to it's better gear spread. The 700r4 drops off real bad between first and second. And with a 3.73 rear end I don't really need that lower first gear.
So here's the main questions. Which is cheaper? Which is easier to put in my truck? |

I'm using a 200R4 behind my 383. I bought it from a guy in Illinois that put all of the beefy stuff in it for me. I've got it bolted to the engine, and dropped in but not running yet. From what I've seen at this point, EVERYTHING will bolt right up to this unit.
One of the bad things about this guy is that this tranny doesn't have a tailshaft housing. Its part of the main housing... so if you are like me and are going to change the tire size, playing with the spedo gears isn't going to be fun. Well relatively it'll be easy, just a bit messier than a T350. |

Only thing I will add, for anyone who worries they cannot be made strong, look at the Turbo Buick guys running 9 second quarter miles run with these transmissions. Todd, I've always run 700r4s and 3.73 rear end gears in my other trucks. If you have any kind of an engine at all, that 1-2 RPM drop is a non issue.
