Weak spark problems...

I'm trying to fire my engine for the first time, and I'm having some trouble. Stock 396 new:cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil, plugs, wires, starter, engine harness. I turned the engine to about 7 degrees BTDC and set the rotor pointing directly at the #1 position. When I disconnect the plug wire, the spark is yellow/orange and will only jump about 1/8-1/4 inch. My points are set to the thickness of the cardboard box they came in (MrGoodpliers style). Any ideas?

spark

During cranking, there should be 12 volts across the points if it's still wired correctly. This voltage then drops to about 8 volts running to keep from burning the points. The spark should be blue. An orange/red/yelow spark is a weak spark. Did you replace the condensor ? If yes, then check for high resistance connections or a weak coil.
