Rewired my 68 this weekend waiting out the hurricane - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I heard the hurricane was headed this way I decided to order a wiring kit so I could pass the time. Boy did it work, I completely rewired the entire truck from front to back with the "Painless" 18 circuit harness. It was fairly easy. The only problem I run into was after I tested the system with a battery charger and everything worked, I hooked it up to the battery and Nothin, the battery charger says the battery is fully charged, my multi-meter shows 10-12 volts but I can't even get the lights to come on. Anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks

Check your ground wires, all of them. 99% of the time it's a bad ground. Painless kits are great, I just installed one in my wifes 70.

I purchased it from Eastwoodcompany.com, there are alot of different vendors that sell the Painless products. It was $350 plus shipping.

Either that battery is toast even though the charger shows that it's charged or you cooked a fusibe link with the charger. Try your battery in another car just to be sure.

Cool, I am about an hour and a half south of you down 27. And my first classic truck was a 38 chevy 1/2 ton drove to Colorado to pick it up and as soon as I got home someone offered 2x what I paid for it so I had to let it go. Thats why I bought my 47 panel to restore.

I am installing that very harness right now. Will not be finished for a day or 2 so I do not have any suggestions to fix your problem. I do have additional questions about this though. May I post them on this thread?

Does the painless kit still use the factory style bulkhead connector at the firewall?

Had to cut my firewall a bit. Template that came with was NOT to scale. Found that out after 1st hole was cut. Fuse block late model GM.

Chickenwing, I ran into the same fuseblock problem when I installed my Painless harness. Other than that, installation was straightforward. At least I will know for next time.
