Carrier
What is the quickest easiest way to get the carrier out of the 12 bolt rear end? I need the ring and pinion off of it and I have never taken a rear end apart before. MACKL gave me some great instructions on the spider gears inside the carrier, but now I need to know how to get the carrier out.

GM shows a special spreader tool in the chassis overhaul manual that actually spreads the housing for carrier removal. I'm sure someone here has a "trick of the trade" for those of us who don't have access to the special tool.

Using that as a guide will get the carrier out of your housing. Once you dig into it, you'll see that it's not hard at all. No special tools needed.
