Help hooking up tach!

I have the original gauge set up but with a camaro tach.I just tried to hook up my tach to my hei but it kills my truck. I seem to have the right wire going to my hei but it doesnt work. Does both wires need hook up to work or just the one? Help please. Lash

If you hook a wire that is grounded to the tach post on the HEI it will die. Make sure the wire is not grounded somewhere
