My uncle had this on an old toyota pickup, got better gas milage. I run WI under high boost (20 psi on 93 octane) on my talon to soak up heat from combustion which lowers knock threshold and allows more timing.

The Ford Escort Cosworth (which like the Subaru was derived from a World Rally Car) had water injection as standard, as above I believe the purpose is to help prevent detonation.

Injected it through the block and into the oil pan.

I was half expecting you to say that Andy.
in theory it is a wonderful idea. the logistics are quite hard to figure out. too much or in the wrong position will just tend to wash the fuel to the side of runners or cylinder. if a person is willing to go through all that they might as well spend the time tuning the fuel & ignition curve while choosing the right cam & engine combo.

LOL, no, didn't help the MPG too much.
Would you believe the motor ingested over a gallon of coolant in less than 10 miles...yet it ran 100% fine?
That's what I get for saying that it was more dependable than gravity huh?

Its used in industrial gas turbines to help meet emissions requirements and was used in aircraft gas turbines to increase the density of the fuel/air mixture which increased power.

In the 70's it was a big fad to run Water Injection, It was a major company, ( Can't seem to remember the name) My brother ran it on a Built Vega Motor, We could never prove any additional power by doing so..

My uncle was a service manger for a Cadillac dealer in the early 80s about the time they came about with the motor that would drop cylinders the less power you need. He said people would complain about the pinging so they would put water injection on them to stop it.

Water injection was originally used on supercharged aircraft engines in WW2 to help keep them from self destructing from detonation under high boost.

It has also been successfully used on various types of racing engines.

These guys make a pretty good system for automotive use, if you
're running a blower or turbo setup.

EddieH., My Dad told me they put 55 gal. drums behind the Pilots seat with Alcohol and water to cool the cylinders. It was neccessary to cool the cylinders climbing after Zeros. That was the only tine they used it and it didn't last long, 3,200 horse radial.

You can make a good kit for about $200. 12v DC pump from Northern Tool, Aquamist nozzle, Napa pressure sensor (if needed) tubing, wiring and switches. Aquamist nozzles work the best and are worth the money we have found from our testing.

I dunno...the olds 260 and 350 diesel motors were steeming piles of dung. At least teh Caddy engine can donate a bunch of awsome parts for the bigger 425/472/500 inch big blocks.

Although, I am not arguing...they were junk. Most can be had with very few miles...only becouse they didn't run most the time.

Dodge does thgis on there new Hemi...glad the computers have come a long way since the caddy atempt.

Most of the 4-6-8 Caddy engines were converted to normal operation by the dealers due to the amount of trouble they caused.

My uncle was an aircraft mechanic during WW2. He told me stories of planes coming back aboard the carrier after a mission with cylinders melted down, or completely gone after they used up all their alcohol/water mixture in a heated dogfight with zeros.
