power steering up grade

I have a 67 C10. I just picked up the power steering box ,center link and pitman arm off a 82. What else do I need to get. I will reuse my original pump and brackets. I think that I will need to change over to the newer tie rod ends and I know I will have to have hoses made up is this right? I will have to cut the bumper bracket and may need to modify the frame. I know all this has been covered all ready but I can't seem to find the search feature to look at old post. Thanks for any information .

I can't speak for all the mods you listed that you are wondering about, but you'll need to heat the frame and dimple it. Once you have your current gear box removed, hold the replacement dox up against the frame and look where the back of the box is touching...you'll need to dimple it there.
If you were to just place washers on the mounting bolts and space it out, you run the resk of breaking the bolts, and you will have the box centered on the off center position. The off center all the way to lock (in both directions) is a softer...at least weaker material, and the box will wear out prematurely. Pluss, being a later box, you'll also have odd steering since it is a variable ratio set up and not a constant ratio like whats in it now.
Double check for metric fittins on your new parts. This can be overcome easily, however, if you plan for it, it will be a non-issue later.

Buy a REZ kit, much easier than dimpling the frame. Comes with special plates to position box & a doubling plate to reinforce the back. Any vendor of 60-66 parts will have them, some of the 67-72 board sponsors are bound to also. Brian

I put an 84 box and pump in my 72 1-ton it was bolt in but changed to a long water pump and moved the alt to other side

The dimple I was talking about is a 67/early 68 thing...after that, it is indeed a bolt in.

Arent the 78 or 79 up hoses metric with a O ring? They are on the cars but maybe trucks used the older style longer. The 82 is definately a long water pump though, you will have to use custom brackets even though I beleive the mounting holes are similar so your original brackets may work. If you use an 82 pump the moutning bolts may also be metric. I learned this while messing around with my el camino, just check everything before you tear your truck apart, unless the truck isnt your daily transportation.

Thanks for all the input. I will be using a 67 pump and brackets on a original engine so the water pump will not be a problem. I was hoping the truck was a late 67 so I would not have to dimple the frame but if I have to I will. My main question is about the ball joint/tie rod ends I remember reading that someting needs to be changed but I can't remember what it is.

I just looked at the pic above and my truck has the dimple so that will make things easy I hope.I am going to have hoses made with the correct ends on them. Like I said the only thing I am unclear on is the tie rod stuff.

You don't need custom made hoses. If you're using stock type of pump and brackets with this swap, just ask for a power steering hose for a 68-72 truck.
