Question Fuel pump?

I have a 97 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 drove it last night no probs. Went to start it up this morning and no go..... no fuel pump noise, but rolls over fine. This has happened before and i have replaced the fuel pump 2-3times (can't remember now) within the last year and a half and in april replaced the sending unit. What's going on?? I tried to find the pump fuse under the hood (I read it was on the firewall on the passenger side) I slammed the hood and then tried the key again and the fuel pump engaged and the truck started. 3 times in a row and then nothing again..... please help!
