got a fuel leak need help

got a fuel leak coming from the front of my engine, I found where the leak is just not sure what the part is called. (sry no pics dont have a digital camera)
its a cylender looking thing that has 2 hoses and 1 steel fuel line attatched to it. it attaches to the block on the passenger side of the engine towards the front.

could this be a fuel pump?

oh almost forgot its on my 72 gmc 3/4 ton with a 402 engine.

Finding a fuel pump shouldn't be a problem.Local parts store,Summit.or one of board members in Texas could probably set you up with one.Good Luck,Mike

99 dollars is very high for a stock type replacement pump. Even the higher volume racing pumps are only about $89.
You can get a stock type pump from NAPA for less than $20.

Unhook, remove from block.
Then the push rod will probably fall out...or down at least.
You'll want to have an assistant bump the engine over while you are pressing the push rod up into the engine. It is driven by the cam, it''either go up, or down, it won't bite you or try to pinch. When you have it in the upward position, tell the assistant to stop. Pull the push rod out all together, and put a big 'ole dallop of grease on the one end, and stick it back up in there and shove it up all the way. The grease will hold it up so you can slip the arm under the rod with minimal fuss.
It sounds kinda complicated, but it is very simple.

Small blocks are cooler becouse there is a bolt you can remove and install a long bolt...and it'll hold the push rod up there....but you big block guys have to do it the messy way. I hate dealing with grease.

the correct pump is a carter #m6628,has a canister type body to it,as alot of bb chevys had back then.when you get under there, you will see a hex headed plug that is at an angle.this is for taking the fuel pump rod in/out of block.when you have the pump out, take out the plug and put it grease on it like longhorn said, push it up in there and it will stay by itself.put it all back together and go.

Some folks bend a piece of wire so it will hold the rod up while they're installing the pump.

Now if it were a small block, I've got a couple I'd give you. And I was just in Austin last weekend.
