Painless harness help
I've finished the interior and now have started headlight section.
The GM factory wiring diagram for a 72 C/K shows the side marker lights wired in series with the front park lamps/turn signal. Ground appears to be through rear side markers. The Painless instuctions instruct "wire #927 (Brn) to all front park lights." Do I wire each side marker/turn signal in series as in the original? Or, do I chassis ground the front side markers and turn signal lights? Any help appreciated. Rich

Ii recently installed the Painless wiring harness designed for the 68-72 Chevy PU in my Blazer- unfortunately it's a few miles away so I can't pop the hood- BUT- if I remember correctly- doesn't Painless have separate wires for "side markers" and separate wires for "turn/park lights"- plus don't the lights ground themselves thru the assemblies? If you hook them up in series, one light goes out- they all go out- not the intention of the Chevy engineers- follow the painless directions, not the chevy manual- the headlight section- heck the entire harness was pretty straightforward- just wish I could see the small print on the wires better.
I can get you better info tomorrow if you need it. Or- the techs at painless are pretty knowledgeable and it's toll free! Let me know if you need some more help. |

Thanks, my mistake. The gm diagram shows the side marker light wired in parallel with the front turn signal with the circuit drawing power from both the turn signal and park light wires. Both lights share a ground through the front park/turnsignal light. If side bulb blows, everything still works. The side markers do not ground through the assembly. It's a plastic housing plugging in to a plastic side marker.
The Painless wires are as follows Left side- #988 brn/wht- side marker light. #927 brn-park light. #926 Lt blu- turn signal. Rt side- #988 brn/wht-side marker. #927 Brn-Park Light. #925 Blu- turn signal. Pretty sure I need to connect #927 to park and sidemarker. The instructions call for "#927 (brn) to all front park lights." The side marker is supposed to illuminate in park? Any help appreciated. Rich

Side markers are on in park, stay on with headlights- parking lights go out when headlights turn on- at least mine do. I'll check my diagram and truck in the am.

Well finally found time to contact painless. Wiring turn signal to sidemarker and frt bumper light enables flash for both lights. Worked as advertised.
