If Your A FORD LOVER Don't look
This was at the show this is the second time I have seen this vehicle ,today I was with my Die Hard Ford Buddy and had to take some pic.
He called this a Sacrilege and I can't post what he thought should be done to the owner.

Don't know why he would be upset....
Look at all the early roadsters and 53-56 trucks that are chevy powered. Like the looks of the way the body behind the seat flows...

Should have just got a Corvette. That seems like a waste of a good motor.

I'm no Ford man, (in fact, these days I hate them), but I will always be a T-bird fanatic. This is beautiful. Those old T-bird V8's were never very impressive anyway, so I'm lovin this idea. (even tried to mock the original Vette grille too)

The body is a 1957 Bird as is the front bumper. The grille is 57 vette. The headlight rings look like a 1955 or 56 Oldsmobile.
I love it but do prefer old Birds stock. Much better resale too. 1957 is my fav out of the 55-57 series, after that they got ugly. Doug. |

Why do people put chevy motors in everything? At the last car show I went to, I saw a 1983 Olds H/O (rather rare car) with a 383 chevy. Right next to it was a 54 Ford with a 350 and a 66 pontiac Lemans with a 350. WTF? They AREN"T that great as far as motors go, they've got relatively weak blocks, and besides, EVERYONE and their mom owns a car with a 350 chevy. When my buddy on Realoldspower got his 81 delta 88, his 307 had 500,000 miles on it. That's right, it's not a mistype - five...hundred...THOUSAND...miles. When we pulled the heads off it to check it out, guess how much ridge wear there was? Just enough to catch a fingernail. Still ran like a top, but leaked from teh valve covers. I'd pay someone to show me a 500,000 mile chevy of any sort. On top of that, they just made a bastard car that will never be worth half the money it would be worth if it had a ford motor in it. Same thing with Chevy powered Oldsmobiles, pontiacs, cadillacs, etc. If you want a chevy motor, buy a frigging chevy.
I have no love for Fords, but I would be MUCH more impressed if they guy put a ford motor in there. Can you say SEFI Y block? How cool would that be? A buddy of mine has a 68 442 with the original POS 400 in there. Bored it .045 over, put a torker intake and headers on it and threw on a Holley Dominator EFI system. Aside from being an absolutely gorgeous car, people look at that car amazed because (1) it's an odd Olds motor that nobody hot-rods because of inherent design flaws, and (2) it's NOT A CHEVY. You should have seen the arguments when the realoldspower people heard that the Skinny Kid racing team was going to be at the Olds Powered Open this year. Why? Because he's running a DRCE motor. For those that haven't heard, it's an aluminum block with the Olds rocket stamped on the side, but it accepts all chevy internals, heads and manifolds. In their opinions, it's a chevy motor, it's a bastard car (even though the only part on the car that's still technically Olds is the roof and cowl) and it is the antithesis of what we are trying to do in the Olds world - mainly to get people to STOP putting chevy motors in their cars. There's a guy in my home town that pulled a built (400 HP) 455 out of his 72 cutlass for a 454 because he said he couldn't find parts for the 455. I called BS on that faster than you could blink an eye. People build chevies because it's easy. That guy needs some stones and needs to build an engine that takes some fortitude to run. I know, you guys are going to say that chevy motors can be made faster than anything else. Tell that to Bill Trovato and Dave Laurer, both running stock bodies and frames and they're running very, very low 8's. Laurer's car is a 74 442 weighing over 3400 lbs. Did I mention that both of those cars are running SMALL BLOCKS? Oh, yeah, that's right. Or, if that's not fast enough, how about Russ Hunt's dragster? Twin Turbo, SEFI, home made manifolds, and makes so much power he has to feather the gas to get it off the line without shaking himself loose. First time out, with severe tire shake problems, he ran the 60 foot in 1.04 seconds. see the timeslip below. Remember this is pedaling it off the line to keep from blowing up the rearend and tires. He's expecting to shave a LOT of time off that. Yeah, that's a small block too. If I remember right, his HP figures were something like 2200 HP at the flywheel. Let me see a SBC do that. It's a bastard car.

sorry guys, I got on a rant and probably stepped on some toes. It just gets me boiling to see a bastard like that. If you buy a car, leave that manufacturer's engine in it. Why else would you buy it?
Oh yeah, don't forget, when I'm talking pontiac, buick and caddy, Chevrolet was teh bottom of the line. Why throw an "inferior" motor in a luxury car? Especially when you've got 455's (and the 472/500 motors from caddy) that can do what a chevy can do, and more? That's why I repsect people like Longhorn man for doing something different. His truck is a bastard, but it's refreshing to see something different when someone pops the hood.

.shortymac83; Yes the 350 seems to be the engine of choice . But what I am seeing here on the Left coast especially with older Ford's is an increase in the use of Ford engine's . My diehard Ford buddy has been pointing this out to me over the last year or so .

The T-bird looks nice, and the whole package is probably what the owner wanted, why else would he build it?
