ot: WTF my datsun is lame
what do you guys think is up? recently when i get up in the morning and go to work the pos fires right up, half way to work the dash lights are getting dim and when my revs drop when im braking for a light or whatever my cd player cuts out, then i get to work my headlights are barely even on, so dim, and i shut the truck off and it will hardly even turn over, by lunch it will start back up, i just put a good used battery in it and thought that would fix it but it is still doing it? does this sound like a bad alternator or what? i hate chit like this...i need to find a real truck for a daily driver,
anyone who might have an idea of my prob lets hear it, thanks, Derek

Maybe the battery cables might be giving a bad connection? I'd pull the alternator, and have a auto parts store bench test it for you.

I'm with Chevyboy1962. I'd take it to Autozone or something equivalent and have them check the alternator. They can also charge your battery up for you.

Fire it up and with it running pull the positive battery cable off battery if it quits running when you pull the positive cable off then the battery is not getting a charge from the alternator. This doesn't mean immediately that its bad, first check to see if there is a fusible link in wiring and check to see if its burnt into, also check for any blown fuses, burnt & or broken wires. Then if this is all good and its not a externally regulated alternator you can then assume you have a bad alternator.

Never take off a battery cable while the engine is running, thats a great way to fry the alternator or at least finish it off if it was weak. Its not so bad on the older cars, but with newer computerized stuff it will freak out the computer and possibly damage the alternator since it goes full amp and full voltage all of a sudden.
