exhaust question
Has anybody gone from a side or back tailpipe to turn downs? What did you think? Did it sound better at all?
Thanks. |

My guesstamation: Louder and more resonance, Im sure rear height also will affect the sound.

I did.
I went from a full length system that exited under the bumper with 12 inch glass packs installed backwards (basicly straight piped) to a set of much quieter turbo style muffs. The noise inside the truck went up 3 fold. I used to be able to talk in the cab at 45 MPH, now you can't even think about talking at 45 or more. It finally quiets down at about 80 - 85, and don't get loud again untill you're really workin it at about 105 or so. |

my exhaust goes back and then bends like it would be exiting behind the wheel and then turns down...... you dont see anything but when you drive over some dust or dirt it gets blown around...... in my opinion it sounds great like an old muscle car.. i have all 2.5 inch with an "H" pipe and 2 chamber flowmasters.
Best of luck Rat

I went from turndowns , to side exit (ahead of the wheels), to rear exit. the Hooker comps run into 2 1/2" pipe/H pipe, & 50's flows, about 18" behing the cab). The 2 1/2" tail pipes run up over the axle, around the fuel cell, & exit through the back bumper.....man does that sound nice! the old chev has a nice deep, hollow rumble (cruisin).....above 2500, that system really sounds off tho thats the way I like it ....crazyL
