What else should I look for? - 4WD Blazer
This weekend, I’m going to look at a ’72 CST 4WD Blazer. He claims that the truck is originally from Arizona and is completely original (un-restored) with 63K miles. The seller is looking for $16K US so it better be super nice. Apparently it has PS, PB, tach, A/C, woodgrain dash and doors, double wall cap, stock suspension with 8” rally’s and 31” rubber, 350, & auto trans. I’m familiar with 67-72 trucks but not as much with Blazers. Here’s what I plan to look for, any other recommendations?
• Glovebox sticker original with Z84 option, Matches VIN # • Original rivets on VIN tag • Rocker box condition • Lift kick-plate and carpet to inspect floor • Cab mount condition • Engine block casting number correct • Engine block Prefix letters correct • Frame stamping (front driver) matches VIN • Panel alignment • Paint condition • Floor, wheel housing, and rad support condition • Frame - clean and un molested |

See if you can pop the top to check for hidden rust on the windshield frame.

Some of the rust areas on the Blazers/Jimmys are hard to see. Pillar ends, front and rear, and Cab supports. You can unbolt the rear of the rocker box, and look inside with a flashlight and mirror to get an idea what you may be up against.. Because of rust, and movement, the back of the rocker box may not only be difficult to remove, but also difficult to bolt back up.

Thanks guys. I notice that this truck does not have lower mouldings. I thought all CST's have lowers mouldings. Or was that an option?

I know CST trucks had lower trim standard, but not sure if the Blazers did or not.

Did'nt CST end in '70? "Cheyenne" was top line in '71 and '72. Were Blazers different?

My 72 Blazer is a CST.....so must be different. Also thought all CSTs had the lower trim too.

Almost forgot- be sure to check the windshield frame the best you can-poke under the weatherstrip.

Blazers were CST up to the end of 72.

Looked at the truck and here’s what I found.
Good – Tach, tilt, CST, A/C, rear seat, buckets with console, orig glove box sticker, frame VIN # correct, solid frame Bad – VIN tag riveted, poor rocker repairs, patch panels at both lower rear quarters, weird home-made gas tank, rocker boxes rusty, windshield pillar touching door edges Think I’ll pass |
