Just picked up a 72 with a 350 and three-on-the-tree. The problem is the pin that keeps the shifter arm in keeps popping out, and the arm feels loose.

Would simply replacing the pin help, or should the column piece that houses the shifter arm need to be replaced?

A new pin would prolly fix it.A rollpin might fit in there a little tighter and not pop out.

Thanks BC, maybe dump question, but can u tell me what a rollpin is and where I can get one?

My dad put in a cotter pin, and it has worked fine for the past 30 years.

There is a nylon bushing that goes in the shifte are. You can get it at the dealer for a buck or two. I don't have the p/n right now,but I might be able to produce one for you.

Longhorn man, thanks, if you can get the number it would be appreciated.

Looks like PO used a straight pin (no groves) to hold the handle on. The real problem appears to be the pin hold in the column is larger than it should be. So new question is, can I replace just the column section that the manual shifter handle attachs to, and how difficult is it to replace in the truck?
