Pull the panel off and see if the rod came loose from the latch..been none to happen. I think these guys are only held in by a plastic clip. It will sound like the rod is moving (cause it is), but all you are actually hearing is the rod slide against the door brace.

I haven't had any problems with my 96, but my 92 had that problem and that's all I remembert finding, but that was back in 94, so my old brain may have forgot some things.

it still open somtimes but only if there is no pressure on the door until after you pull the handle.. so i guess the rod is still hooked up.

Silly as it sounds, it sounds like the lock function for the door is engaging. I know when you lock the door it disables the interrior handle's ability to unlock the door. Maybe that section of the linkage is messed up. Otherwise I think since it is intermittant, I'd look at the catch post to mke sure it didn't get out of alignment. If those don't show anything, I'd guess that the mechanisium has gone bad.

No I can't think of nothing else except remember they are metric and use the Torx screws a whole bunch.

i just went through this problem a month ago. fells like the door is sagging right? well, it was my inside door handle that was going out. it was like this for about 6 months until the darn thing finally broke. i bought the replacement at the dealer and it only ran about $22. they sell the door handle as an assembly so the whole piece needs to be changed out.
