Inner Fender

I noticed a rust hole on the inner fender of my Blazer...it looks like its just on what looks like an access panel or something...Is that access panel piece available or will I have to buy the entire inner fender? and, if i have to replace the entire thing, how hard is it to pull and replace? I don't want to have salt from the roads thrown on my firewall this winter,

Thanks, -Nick

I'm not sure exactly where you are talking about the rust being, but an inner fender is not difficult to change out. I've never really done any kind of body work or stuff like that before, and I changed out both an inner and outer fender a few months ago on my 76 with no problems.

Good luck with it.

Are you talking about the piece that overlays the inner fender? If so, you can either cut it out/off and put another piece over it, or get another fender. That is if what you are talking about is the same I am thinking about.

its a small piece that overlays the inner fender on the back (next to the firewall)...with where it is rusted out you can see the firewall...

Will I have to pull the fenders or grill support or anything to change the inner fender?

I know that part well...it dissolved on my truck. It really isn't a panel, it's part of the inner fender. I'm told that they can be easily removed without removing anything else (except things like the jack, battery tray, or whatever else is bolted to that piece). My truck went to the paint shop before I got to them, so I just let them do it.

its the driver side so it shouldnt be too hard...so, the bolts that go through it arent really holding that little "panel" on?...i was thinking about taking the bolts off and makinga new panel but i'm thinking it might just be easier to put new inner fenders in...theyre not that expensive anyway

Those bolts go through and help hold the inner fender to the firewall. I thought it was an access panel too until I had a new inner fender in hand! There's nothing behind there that you'd need to get to. I think they made it that way to add rigidity. Just my guess.
I'd go with a new panel...you can't stop the cancer! That big bolt helps anchor the lower part of the front fender too!

The rusty piece is welded to the inner fender, pretty tough to remove.I was doing a frame off on mine so I replaced the inner fenders.I got them from GMCpaul they fit very well.
