How is it held in place? I got my duct piece, gasket (which is just a piece of very thin foam), and the center vent, but I don't get it.

The center vent has to holes in the back, but they aren't threaded. Then the duct piece has a set of holes that line up in the back of it, but how does this go together?

Pardon the idiocy...I haven't been frequenting the board long/much, and there are some things I didn't learn back when I was doing my original build up.

the center chrome vent has two post that use the emblem twist nuts and the black duct that goes in the rear fit's over the post and then the nuts
you got to get to the rear to get them out......

I am pretty sure you need to put nuts on the studs.
That doesn't sound to good.

There should be 2 threaded stud's attached to the chrome face of the vent.. The 2 stud's slide through the black plastic piece on the back side of the dash and are held together with 2 nut's...

That's the kind of setup I was expecting, but that's not what is going on.

There are two (somewhat) "studs" on the back of the center vent. The problem is they aren't very long, and they have no thread whatsover on them.

I will take a pic and see if I can get some more clarification.

yes those studs....get the emblem nuts that self tap the threads into the plastic.....not much but it works....is this center vent new.....?????
if not they maybe broken off....

You must have gotten a new aftermarket vent. It has been my observation that the holes need to be tapped where the studs screw in (I just replaced mine) then the studs (I hope you keep your old ones other wise you will have to put the black piece that the vent hoses mount to on the vent and measure how long of a stud you need) screw in put throught dash put the plastic piece on from the back and put the nuts on.

P.S. my aftermarket vent was metal.

The studs screw into the center vent back them out some to get the length you need then put the emblem nuts on the other side

OK, I think I got it now guys.
My vent is new aftermarket. I am not sure if the studs are metal or plastic...I haven't really checked it out that good - it was chromed over, and I didn't tap on it or anything.

Either way, I know what to do now - thank you all.
