Holley street avenger
Has anyone purchased and used one. I've heard and read good things about 'em. Thinking of getting one.

I have on on my 327 and I love it. I have a 670 and it is a pleasure to drive. I tried a new 600 edelbrock on the same motor and there is no comparison.

I've got the 670 on mine. Wish I would have kept my Edelbrock 750. I had more power and got better gas mileage.

Newt, what setup do you have that the 670 was installed on? Was both setups right "out of the box"? Thanks |

Ive got a 770 Avenger on my 454...I love it. I use to be an Edelbrock carb fan....Ive gone back to Holleys

I used an Edelbrock 650 on the 355 that was in my '79 Z-28, and got FAR better mileage than I did with the 4160 650 Holley. Both were brand new. The Holley required re-jetting, and the Edelbrock was almost perfect, right out of the box. Power was about the same, but the Edelbrock was smoother. I haven't used an Avenger on anything yet. Lots of folks love them, though. I might try one on my next build. I was lucky enough to pick up an NOS Carter Thermoquad for my 454. It's one of the replacement models, that has throttle linkage designed to work with Chevy's. They are a finicky carb and not so easy to get tuning parts for, but once tuned right, there is no better carb out there, IMHO. Phenomenal power AND fuel mileage. Very similar to a q-jet, in operational theory.

You're right, my bad. Just made a typo. Mine was a 1411 Edelbrock. Electric choke 750 cfm. The 4160 Holley I had was a 750, too. Gotta watch those big, clumsy fingers of mine. :p

I had access to a rebuilt Holley 750 Vac secondary. So I put it on and boooom. This carb is amazing, so much more power than both the 650 double and 600 vac. Its running a little rich though. The only bad thing is the carb has zero pcv ports. Only one for the dizzy. How should I run this with my vac lines. I currently have a 2 port tree coming out of the manifold. Both the brake booster and tranny are hooked up to it. Is it smart to splice the pcv line into one of these?
Do they make a carb spacer with a built in pcv port? Thanks |
