Gear Changes 71/72 and Up ?
Hope someone can tell me as I have no idea. My '71 4x4 has some rather low gears in it. Suspect 4:11 but not sure, need drain, pull the rear cover, check the numbers and put in fresh lube. I have found a set of front and rear 3:73 gears from a '74 or '76 Blazer. Price is good, $100 for the two 3rd members. Question I need answered is, "Will these gears fit in the cases of a '71 4x4" ? Not very experienced in gearing and don't want to bother with them if they will not fit. Looking to get a little bit better gas mileage on the truck but still have some decent gearing for the 4x unit. Must I stay in the 67-72 years for the gearing to be compatible? Thanks to all who answer.
