this week ill start the what did you get done thread??
this was a horrible saturday for working on vehicles but on the 76 i managed to pull out the transmission and standard transmission linkages and such. My sons school is going to take it off my hands so they can teach the kids how to rebuild standard transmissions, and show them how the set up works. It was time for a new clutch and pressure plate and the truck when it was on the road last over a year ago had the throw out bearing singing , but we are just going to convert it to an automatic trans. Once i got the trans out my son and i supported the motor and cranked it over again so it would run and we ran it a few minutes just so we remembered why we started this whole mess in the first place.
As to the 1986, we finally got around to swapping out the inner wheel wells so the old rotted ones are long gone and the new aftermarkets are installed all nicely painted up ( one of my misguided ricer buddies was rebuilding a honda civic and he got me started on the metallic black paint on the engine compartment) with metallic black paint and a couple of coats of clear. We also painted up the battery tray and the core support, and sprayed rubberized undercoat on the firewall so it looks pretty good. Now i need to paint the chassis rails as they look kinda crappy with the rest of the motor compartment looking so nice. During the week im going to try to get to the wrecking yard so i can get the interior pieces i want and hopefully ill find a way to get the transmission pieces i need for the 76 so that can get to be more than a glorified lawn ornament. This week i also will take apart my 81-87 automatic column and convert it to work in my 76 truck by switching over some of the pieces for the turn signals etc. now how about yall?

The 94 alternator on my truck went kaput. I made it home with the battery down to 8.3 volts!!! I installed the original stock 64. Now I'm having the 94 amp alternator upgraded to 120 amps. It may be several weeks before I get it back.

Worked my second job Suturday and attended a B-day party afterwards. Sunday...washed the clothes, mowed the grass, and watched Junior win at 'Dega. I also put away the BBQ grill, bikes, and patio furniture for the winter.
In between all of this, I did manage to get my roors, calipers, and backing plated painted and detailed for Yeller. Hope to install them sometime this week.

Saturday, a buddy of mine rode up from Austin, and we went out to the Lonestar Nats. Got to see Ken and visit for a few minutes, and saw a ton of awesome cars. Got a few more ideas for the Blazer. Also found a few color ideas as well. Then we wemt to eat some excellent Mexican food.
Today, we clebrated my daughters birthday. After all of that, I retrieved my cherry picker and engine stand from our container. The new engine arrived right about the time it started raining (ugh!). Got that situated and moved, then got to sorting out the goofy, hacked up wiring on my truck. I scored some wiring manuals off of ebay this week, and put them to good use. Now all of the dash lights and gauges except the tach work. I will mess with that later.

WOW!!!! What an awesome weekend! It started on Thursday afternoon with a phone call from my buddy n2billet. He said they people at Air Ride Technology needed a bagged ride for their display at the Good guys rod run. He wanted to know if I would be interested in putting my 77 in the display. Let me think here? I would get in the show free and get put my truck on display Oh heck yeah I'm interested
Friday my daughter played in the second round of her 7th grade volleyball tournament. They dropped the first set on Thursday to a team they had just beat badly a couple weeks before so they were playing in the consolation bracket. They won their bracket and ended up 4th in the tournament. They were so pumped you would have thought they just won the national championship. Firday night at 9:15 we left for Dallas. After driving through a nasty rain storm we got there at 1:30. Keith and I headed for a self serve car wash and blasted my 77 down. It was ash gray from all the road film. Then we went to the Stoked Out Specialties shop to hand wash and detail the motor. I got it done, grabbed a quick shower and headed for Ft. Worth to the show. I got to the show at 6:15 and sat it line till 7:15 thinking missing a nights sleep was worth getting my 77 in to a pre-73 show. I spent the morning cruising the show and taking pics. The amount of quality cars and trucks was much better this year. Look here for some great coverage by ChevelleChick-Goodguys Lonestar Nationals- ChevelleChick I had PM'ed a few of the forum members early in the week to arrange a lunch meeting. We only had a couple that could make it for lunch, but I got to meet a bunch of the guys before the weekend was done. Some of these guys I had already meet (or have known for a while), but here's the list. It was great to put faces and names to screen names. Please don't shoot me if I forget to mention you- 98L150- Jeff greens69- Steve Scoti- Scot STP67-72- Steve brad2- Brad Jonboy-Jon Zumo- Andy Rigo- Rigo The highlite of my awesome weekend came on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Cook from Classic Trucks magazine found me. He said he had been looking for me all day because they wanted to shoot my truck for a feature article. He was really back logged because of the weather so could I wait till Sunday at dusk. Oh heck yeah I'll wait Sunday we got a to the show around mid day because we slept a little late. I started cleaning my truck and Jeremy came by. He said since the skies were overcast he could shoot my truck now before the awards. So I rushed through a quick detail and we took of to a parking lot outside the show. The truck looked great sitting on a white rock parking lot. I got back in time to see the Stoked Out crew make a killing at the awards. All the cars they had recently put together won an award. The best one was a 1950 Chevy truck that won Truck of the Year. Congrats to the crew at Stoked Out....

We headed up to Goodguys with a group of 15 people in 3 vehicles. Did a quick sweep of the show area, picked up a few parts and headed to a friends house to pick up his truck. It was a quick trip but I did have a blast.
Ken! A buddy of mine had a special award yellow sticker on the head light of his 51 Chevy that I was going to pealed off and put on your truck. That would have been big fun, but figured if the judges saw us putting on your 77 truck we may all get sent to the principals office. Sooooo we put it on a little mini T bucket instead. hehe.

Pulled the seat, washed the seat cover, re-wired the stereo speakers, Installed salvaged, but decent, molded carpeting (looks great!) and discovered about a 4 inch x 1/2 inch rust thru at below the parking brake and about a 5x4 in similar location on the passenger side. Guess I've got my winter project!

I wondered if you made it since you didn't call me back. You should have put the sticker on there. That would have been funny. Maybe not at first, but I would have laughed later

Has what I did with my pickup. Otherwise I drank Sat night after I got the pickup put back together and then drove to Fort Ransom, ND and watched the rodeo. My brother-in-law was one of the bull riders and one of our friends was the bull fighter. We also kind of plugged our bull riding and managed to get 6 people registered to ride. Went and picked up a stripping chute after the rodeo and then drove about 75 miles back in a 30MPH head wind loaded with trailer and stripping chute and 4 guys in the cab and bull riding and bull fighting gear in the bed. All in all pretty full weekend.

Friday night, we (me, ross, my mom & granma) all jumped in the new 98 Saturn Wagon, and headed up to Black Oak Casino (Indian Casino). Since Ross had never been there, we figgered we'd go. Ended up staying there about 4 hours, and playing the entire time, and walking away with our money back in our pocket. (Not bad!)
Saturday, I had to get up at 8am, to take the wagon over to the tint shop to get the windows tinted. Came back, slept until noon, then went over and picked it up. Must say, the black windows look SICK! Then, when I got the wagon back, I proceeded to change the oil/trans fluid in both the coupe and the wagon. Also, put new front brake pads/rotors on the new wagon (Still need to do the rear brake shoes.) Then, changed the oil in my truck, and zip tied a few wires away from hot things. Got done with all that about 4pm, went over and ate at a mexican restaraunt, came back home, relaxed a bit, then cleaned up the truck and took it out to the local cruise night. Sunday, I slept my happy @$$ in! Woke up around 1pm, putted around the house. Had to fix the computer, because somehow it got infested with a virus. Meh, my weekend was ok... |

Saturday: Went to junkyard to and grabbed 2 electric choke setups. 1 off a v6 Regal, 1 off a Caprice wagon. While there found a set of DR secondary rods and a G hanger.
Got home and coverted hot choke setup to electric for my quadrajet. Swapped out secondary rods and hanger. Filed down av stop to open a little less than 90 degrees. Then retorqued intake and readjusted valves. Then set timing and adjusted vacuum advance. Got the key buzzer working after finding it by mistake. Owned truck about 7 years and never knew it had one. Put dash back together and installed new stereo head unit. Took the crew cab dually for a short ride...1st time in a year and a half . All was great until I looked down and saw the #$&@ speedometer wasn't working . Looked under the hood and also noticed the electric choke wire's terminal was broken somehow. Had two but must had lost one between junkyard and home . Sunday: Went back to junkyard and now grabbed 4 electric choke wires (just incase). Also grabbed a speedometer, incase mine isn't a quick fix. Then headed to Mountain Speedway to watch the "King Of The Mountain." Talked with some old friends from Long Island (Riverhead Raceway), which I haven't seen since moving to PA. Got home and did some work on a friend's computer. Looked up scores to see the Redskin's lost again . Then called it a night.
