1996 Chevrolet Lumina Starting Problem

Sorry for the post on the truck forum. But a really good friend of mine has a 1996 Lumina and it won't start all of the sudden. The battery on the car is new allong with the alternator. I tried to jump the car and it made no attempt to start. If you get in the car and turn the key, everything works but it makes no noise. No attempt to start at all. I banged on the starter and it made no differance. I even tried to jump the starter with a screwdriver and you can hear the relay kick out but the starter is not turning. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some relays or something to check ? Thanks everyone, and again I appologize for the post on the truck forum but everyone here is full of tips.

If you jumped the posts, then either the engine is locked up, or it is time for a new starter.

It could be the anti- theft chip in the key. Try spare key, I bet it will crank.

If he jumped the posts on the starter, he would have bypassed everything in the car, all switches, all relays all computer stuff. It should crank.
It is the exact same as bench testing it.

Providing he's getting power to the starter. Check for voltage at the starter and check the battery ground. While your at it check the battery voltage. If a battery gets too low it still won't jump. (Yes even though it's a new one someone could of left something on or did he have a charging problem seeing as you saidthe battery and alternator are new?)

Make sure the engine isn't frozen up by turning the belt or crank pulley.
