Which motor would you go with?

My '72 C-10 has an old worn out 327 that somebody put in it long before I got it. If you were going to re-engine this truck would you just rebuild the motor that is in it (327), or would you try to go back to the original motor that came in the truck which was the 402?

Personally, I would go back with a 402 and sell that worn-out 327 to Putter for a few bucks and let him worry about the rebuild stuff......I hear he would even come and get it. He is just that type of guy. Always willing to lend a hand.

(Not that I have a biased opinion.....)

Depends on usage

I think the best choice for you would be what depends on how you plan to use the truck. For a daily driver, the 327 would be fine, but if you want the extra power you could make a big block sleeper.

Pilgrim, I can take a hint. If I change out this motor to something different, the 327 is yours.

Crawdad.....Oh, it's like that??? I offered to come and get the 327 (and bring cash) back up there in post number "2". Take a look....now you are offering it to Pilgrim. I thought we were tighter than that, man?!?!?!?! (j/k)

Unless you two already are buddies.....then I guess I can let it go. (again...kidding)

If its a daily driver, go with a crate 350 which will cost less then the rebuild of the 327. Sell the 327 to first offer as that's fair. Replacing it with a 402--I would not plug one in without a rebuild as big blocks have a tendancy to have been run hard. I've got a 402 out of a 71 chevelle waiting for a rebuild--says "high performance" on the front of the casting??

Putter I stands corrected. You sure did say you wanted it first. Sorry Pilgrim, reckon I'm gonna have to let it go to Putter. I mean, he did offer to come and get it, trying to be real helpful you know.

I figured you and Pilgrim were close buddies and all and had pre-established a deal. Not trying to cause any issues. Really though, PM me a price for it and when it might be available and I'll see what I can do as far as a road trip.

Motor

Huck makes a really good point.
Daily driver, I'd go crate 350
Rompin' tire burner, I'd go 402 :p
I have a swb with a 402 and yes, it's way fun to drive
