To be totally honest, your easiest route would be to buy a complete 4x4 rolling chassis and bolt your body / motor to it.

If you want to do it the hard way, you'll need to unbolt the front crossmember, and bolt up all of the 4x4 equipment, you'll need to make sure that you drill all your holes in the exact right position. I did some shopping in regards to this, and found that it would actually be cheaper to buy a complete rolling chassis than it would be to buy all the parts individually and put the time and effort into doing the conversion.

yep, im in areement, buy a 4x4 chassis, and swap your body onto it, drop your engine in and go. i am in the same boat, i've got an 86 C10 going onto a 79 K10 frame. i actually bolted in a set of HD front springs and a 3/4 ton 10 bolt front axle last night. tonight i'm taking it back out and putting my Dana 60 under it on 52" rear springs. the springs should give me about 4-5" of lift. god i hate being undecided.

I've done it the other way because I hate unbolting all the sheetmetal because of space and manpower limitations. I bought a complete , rusted out blazer and swapped all the suspension/drivetrain over. The factory rivets all the brackets & such to the frame so BE SURE to use at least grade 5 bolting when reinstalling them to a 2WD frame . use grade 8 if you can find them.
Just be sure to have a good grinder to remove the factory rivet heads to punch them out. as Jason said . don't be skeered.& JIT-R-DONE. dave

yeh Pre i got the body lift on, 2" blocks, 1 ton coils and im still wanting more height, so i figure go 4x4 so i can go even bigger. its addicting. For those of you who've done this conversion, how much should i be looking to spend for parts ( for a rolling chasis or individual parts) and how long should i plan on setting aside to do this?

everyone i ever talked to said that they were completely different. my K10 project could have started from my 82 C10, which had a perfectly straight, spotless frame, instead i ended up with 2 frames, one slightly rusty, and one cracked and tweaked beyond belief. wish i would have known that before.
