S-10 weatherstrip on my 71 - pictures
Here are the pictures of the S-10 weatherstripping that I put on my 71 last week. The pictures are of the corner in the upper part of the door frame. It's the only part that doesn't look really stock but I think it looks fine. I would bet not many people would ever notice.
I bought this from GMC Paul's. It was on the same day I received it. Great stuff. It pushed on, no glue. Installs real easy. The doors shut pretty hard now, but I am guessing it will get easier as I break in the weatherstripping.

it looks real good Shawn. to he77 with anyone who criticizes the inaccuracy! if you want to stop down sometime we can try to adjust your doors a little.

My weatherstripping was so bad that you could barely hear the person next to you at highway speeds. I want to paint the truck next year, so I didn't want to glue new weatherstripping on just to rip it off next spring. So I thought I would try this and see how it worked out. I am very happy with it.

Does the outer "soft" seal come attached already to the harder seal?. In other words is that seal one piece or 2 piece?

Thanks. The reason I asked that question, I saw some at the junkyard Saturday and when I touched the outside soft rubber it seperated from the inside hard rubber like it was made in 2 pieces. It seperated very cleanly.

Well it looks better than what's in my truck ATM.Is it juts stock S-10 weatherstrip? I mean if I pull the stripping off the S-10 in the salvage will it work? Provided it's in decent shape of course.
Is it a certain year S-10 that you use?

Were those new ? If so what was the cost?
Or what year S10 to look for the seals in? I may have to get some soon. |

Do you like the S-10 seal enough to put it back in after you paint? DO you think it fits well enough all the way around? And like everyone else was asking ... What year S-10 did you use?

from what i saw on the GMCPAULS web site stock door seals were like 30 bucks but i think that those get glued on http://www.gmcpauls.com/Pickup.htm and the s-10 ones (82-93) were 50 bucks and just push on http://www.gmcpauls.com/rubber&weather_strip21.htm

70C10 - I worked at a plant that made this type of seal, the plastic/rubber composite is actually extruded over a metal strip, and the foam rubber is inserted into the plastic or in some applications is glued to the extrusion. (I hope I remembered that correctly..) The extruded piece runs through some "breakers" that brake the metal strip up inside of the extrusion, the entire piece is then "molded" or bent to a specific application. We called this windlace and sold to all of the big 3. I think our machines spit this stuff out at 100-110 ft / minute depending upon the profile of the extrusion.

Hey 71SWB - thanks for the photos I think I'll give them S-10 strips a try as well. Not to change the subject, but what are your seats out of? 00-04 Silverado? They seem to sit pretty high, which I wouldn't mind, but can you still see out of the back glass ok thru the review mirror?

Here is what I bought:
82-93 S10&15 Door Opening Weatherstrip Part no: 1315118 1982-93 S10 & S15 Truck, Blazer Or Jimmy front or rear door opening weatherstrip attaches to cab and seals door to cab, sold in pairs. Lifetime Warranty I think I will put it back on after I repaint. Of course that is a little ways a way so I may change my mind, but right now I am very, very pleased.

Actually I don't know if used seals off an S10 will still be long enough to reach around our doors. The S10 seals length is "cut to fit". And the seals I took off by Blazer when I discovered they would also work on my 71, were glued at the ends. Honestly I don't think you could get used seals that have already formed to a S10 door opening to re-form to the 67-72 door opening. It would be worth a try. Somebody grab some used ones and report back.

Looks good. Beware though that the hard seal on the inside tends to shrink when it gets hot in the cab. On my S-10 both rear corners of the inside weatherstrip shrunk in the summer heat.

Hey 71swb4x4, how about a couple pics (inside and out) of the upper rear corner of the seal? 71Chev had posted some of his in another post, but I'd like to see how yours turned out as well. I want to use these on my Burb, but I'm too chicken to spend the $$$ until I'm convinced they'll work well on the Burb's squared-off upper rear corner. Thanks.

I can get those, but my upper rear corner is rounded (pickup), and it worked perfectly.

That would be great...so far I haven't heard of anyone using them on a Burb, so the pickup's rounded corner is as close as I can come to seeing how the seals would work. Thanks again.

i think i remember reading that someone cut them and meitered the corner. but i dont think i would use them on a burb back door
