Bought repro windshield rubber..mistake??
I bought repro rubber for the front window (deluxe trim) from Scott's Super Trucks in Alberta. I asked if they had any trouble with the rubber and they said no, they work great, but some board members have stated they do not work like GM ones do. Are there a few different rubber suppliers out there, and if so which companies make the "good" ones? I would have bought GM but the dealership here is terrible to deal with, so that means a trip outta town. Anyone ever bought this rubber from Scott's?

I bought my seal thru Frank (Pickmup) and he had a deal where he worked with Safelite and they tried lots of different one and then found the one that works great. I bought that one from Frank and had Safelite do the work- Lifetime warranty on leaks....priceless. Maybe ask Frank (Pickmup) what seal he recommends.

Scott is a pretty stand up guy, I am sure if you had problems with it, he would fix the problem. And I would also imagine that he has sold a ton of these already.

Here's a link from a prior discussion on this. It was Wes that said precision was the best aftermarket windshield gasket out there. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...dshield+gasket

Ironchief eh? Do you have a ph.# for them? Do they produce a catalog? How about a web address? On another topic, are you going to the Red Deer swapmeet?

Who knows?
Who knows? I guess it just depends on your personal experience with a particular part.
I have always used/and sold OEM SS trim (cleaned & polished), but having trouble keeping enough available, so I just tried the repro WS trim. It came back from the glass shop because one long piece had the wrong curve built into it and it would NOT fit! You could see the problem. I don't know if this is a common problem, but I will try to stay with good used GM trim. One of the big local glass shops does not recommend "Precision" and says they just have too much trouble with it. I supply them with a USA made rubber that is more pliable and seems to fit better---However, if they aren't careful spreading the seal equally around the WS, there can be a pucker at the top or in a corner. By the way, the seals seem to shrink with age and the pucker often just goes away. They always use some sealer for insurance. So, Who knows? |

Dunno who really knows.... The glass shop I just asked for a quote for an install only, no parts was very happy when I said I had Precision seals.
