Thought I would try posting here, I've got an 85 1/2 ton lwb, 305, SM465, 10 bolt 2:37 gears. I was pulling the boat home (probably 6800 lbs with trailer), and every time I tried to move from a stop, the whole truck would hop around until I got moving. I was talking to a guy at the boat ramp who noticed it and said something about the rear end. I was wondering if there is something I could do to help this.

Is it like clutch chatter,or something different? Could be the clutch getting weak.2.37 gears aren't goingto help much in the towing field either.
I'm thinking the clutch is needing changed

I don't think it's clutch chatter, it did the same thing when I replaced the clutch a couple of years ago. I know the 2:73 gears don't help, but I thought the granny gear of 6.55:1 would compensate to get me moving. It's hard to describe the "hop", kind of like the back end bounces up and down. I also notice it does this in reverse even when not towing.

Check u-joints & slip yokes for slack/binding. Brian

I would look at the motor mounts and the trans mount too...
