Electric Fans
He guys, finally got some new motors and got the bottom part of my fans secured to the rad support. I fired the truck up without the flex fan on it, and let it get up to its normal temperature, then turned the fans on. They kept the truck at its normal temperature. I then decided to see just how good they would do, and revved the truck up to a constant 3000 rpm for a minute, the fans couldn't keep up, and the truck came close to overheating before the two fans managed to cool it down a bit more.
Now, I'm a bit worried that if these fans can't keep up at 3000 rpm for about a minute, that they won't be able to keep up at an idle with it being 95 F outside... I noticed that there was a large amount of air coming out from the side of the rad (infront) rather than going through, would a home made shroud help at all, or should I just scrap the whole try and mount them up front idea and put them in on the other side (heck of a lot of work to try and make some brackets there...)? They blow a whole lot more air when they are mounted properly, while running em this way moves quite a bit of air, they don't blow nearly as much air down the center of the fan, just the outsides...

ok. i read all that and not really clear.. you felt air blowing where? from inside the engine through the radiator out the front..??
a shroud would work but may restrict air at speeds.. depending on how you do the shroud.. the ones i have seen are flush with the back of the radiator and just have opening for the fan... to me that would shrink the area of the radiator that can efficiently pass air... |

I decided I'm just gonna mount the fans as pullers, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how I am gonna do so...

post pics if possible.... could make brackets out of metal brackets that bolt to the stock shroud bolt holes..

Ok, here are a couple pictures:
Picture one shows my rad, picture two shows my fans, picture three shows the gap that needs to exist between the fans and the top of the shroud so my fans don't hit the rad...

Aye, such a pain in the butt, but I guess I am gonna have to take the truck to the shop at school and build some brackets for the thing... I've got a second block spare, so I can probally make them during second block...

1. Pushers are always worse than pullers
2. judging from pic 2 (difficult to tell because of all the crap that's on the fan blades), if you had the fans set up like that as pushers the vanes are upside down.

I simply reversed the motors. They did move plenty of air, but just not quite enough for my liking. I just didn't want to spend the money on the stock iron to build myself some proper brackets, lol
The brackets I'll make will look much better, and work much better than anything I could have built out of scrap metal around here... I'll have to relocated my overflow tank, but whatever, that's the easy part.

My fans Mounted..
Friend of mine had to make brackets to use a fan like yours He just took some flatbar heated it up bent it to where it bolts to the radiator cover and the core support down low. Last edited by 1972C10; 07-02-2007 at 01:13 AM. |
