I might be interested in that white guage setup. What kind of tach is that? I will PM you with other questions.

PT, you might want to re-think painting the backside of the metal housing. It should be bare steel so you can get the good grounds you need. There are two grounds on the printed circuit board that need to contact bare metal bare metal. One is just to the left of where the wiring harness plugs in and the other one is located just above where the speedometer is.

It does not matter if the backing plate is painted or not, they are painted from the factory. If you will look at the printed circuit board the back of it is coated and is not bare to cause it to ground to the backing plate the only thing that grounds it are the screw threads going into the plate itself.

PT, the backside of all instrument clusters in our trucks did not come painted. I had to strip the paint off the speedwarning/tach dash I purchased from you because I was not able to get a good ground. After I stripped the paint, it worked great. You're right, the backside of the printed circuit is coated. But when there's paint in the screw holes, it hurts the ground. I do believe the tach head gets it's ground from being screwed down to the bare metal on the back of the instrument cluster.

I have built over 50 of these units and everyone I have built comes painted dark gray from the factory so I see no reason to have the painted stripped when it gets ground from the screw itself, but I glad that your dash is fine and hope you are pleased with it.

He's right some of them came painted from the factory and some not. I have some that are both ways.

PT, I am very pleased with the dash I got from you....It's sweet and I'm already looking for another one for my collection. Speedwarnings are getting tougher to find. I currently have six in my collection. I hope they never re-pop them....The value of my collection will be reduced dramaticlly. You are a very detail oriented person when it comes to putting these back together. The painted thing is so strange. I have never seen one that came painted from the factory.
