67 Wrecker

Here are a few pictures of a 1967 C30 Tow Truck that I am working on buying. Pretty clean truck with the only rust I could find on the floorboard, about the size of a playing card. Enjoy the pictures and I will post more when I get the truck....

Nice looking wrecker.

There's a '67 wrecker, with 69-70 fenders and a 71-72 grill for sale back in GA (well, it has been for a good while anyway, don't know if it's still there for sure). 350 with a 4spd IIRC. I felt that the $3500 asking price was a bit much for its condition though... especially with all the mismatched parts

OBviously i dont know anything about the subject, but why would a wrecker only have a 327ci?!?!? Was that the only "option" in 67 i'm guessing?

And it made a good engine for that kind of service. Surprising amount of torque. Back then, when you towed a vehicle, you usually didn't go much over 50, things weren't that stable when towing.

That 327 engine was probably rated at about 230HP. Think 68 was when most all the pollution crap came to be and everything went to hell in a handbasket. Like Fred said those things had a lot of power and torque for a small block.

327's had several hp ratings....had a 65 vette with a 300 hp 327, ran like a raped ape.

Couple that with the right trans and rear end, makes a good wrecker combination.

Hey Rod,

I am not sure, I did not climb over to the passenger side of the boom to see if it had
an identification plate. I thought it is an older Holmes but I am not sure.
Will be buying the truck later this week, for about $1600, it is a runner, but there are so many wires hanging down from the frame that I am going to trailer it home.

Anyone else know what wrecker bed this has??

Hi All,

Hey Rod, the bed is a Holmes 500, kinda unusual for a 1 ton truck. This wrecker was mostly put onto the 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 (C40 or C50) trucks.

A lot of good tow truck info that I found last night is on Tow411.net
