Hey everybody, I will soon be down to the rails on my 70 c 10 project and would like suggestions on products to put on the rails, frame etc of the truck.
It will be a driver, but I intend for it to look very nice and detailed on the bottom side as well.

Experiences and input appreciated.

Por 15? eastwood's rust encapsulator? or other ?

Go POR15. It is the BEST IMO.

My truck frame was done with POR-15 about 5 years ago and still looks pretty good. I may recoat it this winter.

I've used POR and don't particularly care for it. It's too tempermental, very humidity sensitive since it's a moisture cured urethane and tends to cure in the can if you don't use it all the first time or two, And as far as their claim "Paint Over Rust" goes, don't even think about it. POR's slick finish fades quickly to a black chalky mess when exposed to UV rays, I wouldn't recommend it. Blast the entire frame down to bare metal and clean it well. I personally prefer eastwood's chassis black over their rust encapsulator. Very nice results with a paint gun. Powder coat seems to be the chassis coating of choice for a lot of people here if you can afford it.

I have not used either, But after what I read on Eastwoods site I think I would go with them. But seeing how I haven't used POR15 or Eastwoods. My .02 is worth about .01.

I haven't used eastwood but have used por extensively.
My big complaint with por 15 is like said above. If left to the sun for a week or so the bueatiful gloss black finish becomes a chalky black finish.I love it for anything covered or unexposed to sun (undercab,inside cab floor, inside doors, under box ) The stuff dries rock hard and is veryyyyy chip resistant. Painted my firewall and then it sat outside for a week . No front clip just cab. Ended up pulling the heater box off later and painting under there also. You can see what the sun does to the shine. I will have to repaint the fire wall gloss black or body color now

POR cleary states it is not UV resistant. It must be top-coated if it is exposed to UV rays. It is the coating of choice for me UNDER the truck.

I say POR...that stuff is awsome. just don't fall asleep in a car with a can busted open all over the trunk.
As far as the UV thing, it does in fact say that on the can...it is supposed to be painted.
However, there is the Chassis black POR that DOES hold up to UV light and doesn't need to be painted.

Make sure the metal is degreased and etched before use. I used a sponge applicator with POR-15 to avoid brush strokes. The stuff is self leveling to a point. Oh be absolutely sure to wear a respirator when applying and also buy small cans rather than gallon to avoid humidity curing in the can...

We don't do frames with anything but PPG products. Their 2k etch primer,2k primers, paint and sometimes clear are the only way to go for a quality long lasting restored or custom frame.

I'm with mothertrucker on this one. PPG is the way to go .I have used their two part epoxy on several of my truck frames,and years later it still looks fresh.completely degrease the frame,wash ,rinse,sand blast ,epoxy prime .chasis black paint job. nicest job you will get.

I did my last frame with POR 15 and then their topcoat. So far very very durable. I took no chances even though the frame sees very little if any UV.

I sure don't recommend any PPG DP90 on frames. That stuff didn't last very long on my blue K20.

I know this may sound a little off, I used bed liner, Rhino or any comparable
product, and this makes a very durable coating and seals off the rust from forming. After it sets up it is very hard to even chip off. Just another option, Mike
