Cruise Control problem

Hey fellas

What could gause your cruise system to floor the truck until you hit the brake to stop it rather than maintaining it's speed?

I have seen sticking set/acc buttons on the steering wheel cause this.
What truck and system is this?

80 GMC, got the little box on the fender. I'm trying to get the setup working so I can box it up and ship it down to a guy who wants it as a working system. I think I have another set / acc button, so I'll give it a shot...

It could also be the vss (vehicle speed sensor) if it is disconnected it could cause the truck to accelerate indefinitly.

The vss is that box on the fender right? I suspected it is the problem... I'll run to the yard and get a new one, see if it helps

It should be in the speedo w/ a little green box attatched. - 87 is on the tranny I believe. Earlier ones might have it in the fender. It would be sonnected to the speedo cable somewhere.

Yep, my truck has both installed now, but didn't come factory with the VSS in the dash. I needed one for my EFI setup, so I put a later speedometer in with the electronic VSS

No. 1980 was before the days of VSS. The cruise is controlled completely by the transducer mounted on the left inner fender. That unit controls vacuum to a diaphragm that actuates the throttle linkage. This is before the days of electronic control.
