Lowered coils for big block trucks?

Are there any aftermarket drop coils that are specifically for BBC trucks/Suburbans? I've looked but most don't specify engine size. BellTech does, but they only list small blocks.

Thanks! I have ordered stuff from LMC before, very happy with them. However, I have a 77 GMC Suburban, 1/2-ton w/454 that I want to lower a little. I use it as a DD and tow rig, so for now I was going for about a 2" or 3" drop in front. So my dilemma is, should I order 2" coils and see how much my truck drops, or look for BB-specific coils (which I'm beginning to doubt exist).

I don't think such coils exist...at least I have never seen them.

I'm with Jeff. I've never seen them listed for big block of small either. I've bought coils twice and was never asked what I had.

If that is all you want to drop it, why not go with drop spindles? They cost more, but will avoid the spring issue entirely. You also won't have to worry about bottoming out, getting shorter shocks, etc.

I have 2 1/2 inch Western Chassis drop spindles, and I am very pleased with them.

Good point, I'm not sure why I am set on coils....just cheap, I guess. :p Thats a great idea, I can avoid any alignment issues that may crop up, also.

I'm a cheap bastard, but I have learned the hard way too may times that the cheap way is often unsatisfactory. It is only cheaper if it works. if you have to do the work twice, and pay for parts twice, it isn't really cheaper.

Also, since my truck is my daily driver, I didn't want to make it ride any worse than it already does.

Slonaker is right. Before ever buying springs to drop the front, always go with a drop spindle first. Then later, when (not if) you want to go lower, you are already ahead of the game.

Most of us drop guys have been through about all the ways to lower one. Myself, I've used about every way there is except for bags. Buy the spindles and be done with it. You'll be much happier in the long run. Drop coils ruin the ride. The lower you go, the worse it gets.

More good points. I am actually restraining myself as to how low I go right now. I would love to go nuts, but my Sub still needs to pull an open car hauler with a Toyota rockbuggy on it. Maybe the slammed truck bug will overpower my 4-wheeling bug....

it DOES matter wether big or small block, the front of my truck is lowered about 1 to 2 inches jsut from putting in a big block on small block springs, the big blocks weighs around 300 pounds more i belive.

I don't think any of us said it didn't matter. We said they don't sell them that way. I've never seen an ad where they listed drop coils and asked if it was a big block or small.

I am glad this was brought up.I have a set of 1.5 drop springs for my 63. I bought them when i was planning on putting a SB in the truck. Now that I have a BB will using them hurt the ride and handling? What ever I end up doing I know I will need to replace the stock 6cyl springs.

I swapped from an inline 6 cylinder to a 454 and also went from a 3 speed on the column to an auto trans, and added power steering and power brakes at the same time. Lowered the truck maybe 1/2 inch from the extra weight.

I run the Summit brand (Ground Force makes them) 2 inch generic 73-87 truck front drop springs.

sorry to jack the thread but in terms of stock height springs could you get a set for a BB equipped truck but use them in a SB equipped truck.im thinking of this b/c my truck has heavy duty springs in the rear but not in the front and i want it to have a little firmer ride-or can you order heavy half front srpings if such a thing exists.

When I bought the springs for my truck there was a heavy duty and a light duty option. I got stock Moog springs from O'Reilly Auto Parts.
