torque for pinch bolt on pitman arm?
what is the torque on that pinch bolt that goes though the pitman arm? and onto the shaft that drops out of the power steering box on my 71 4x4 gmc?
i hope how i worded this makes sense...anyone know knows could you let me know, ive got it on there at 90 ft/pounds but im not sure if that is too tight or if i should go tighter, thanks Derek

As tight as you can get it basicly.
At work, we just Zip them on with an impact. (Yes...I know it is not the correct way) If this was a late model ford, then there would be shattering gear box issues, but not on these old rigs. make sure to make torque noises as you bear down on it...it helps get it just a hair tighter. |

Yeah, the large nut that holds the pitman arm to the steering gear box output shaft, right?
Like I said, it isn't the 'correct' way, but that's how we do it on everything but late model fords at work. |
