Auto Mechanics
From this day on I vow to learn everything I can about the Chevy Small Block so I NEVER have to deal with Auto Mechanics again! Yes, I just had ANOTHER bad experience.

Hey take it easy on mechanic, I'm a licensed journeyman mechanic up here and I'm honest, if I'm not sure of something I'll ask another mechanic. I dont rip people off and I try to give everyone a good deal on work.

Ya! Same here! I have always tried to be honest.
The biggest problem I have seen being a mechanic is dealing with people who think they know what is wrong, or try to tell you what is wrong. And usually don't know crap, then blame you for fixing something other than what they wanted, even though it wasn't the problem in the first place! Hey Dean...do you know of any good project trucks around our area? Reid ------------------

I'm the foreman at my shop so i deal with an occasional customer problem, but they rented the truck form us so they dont have to worry about their money being spent to fix it.

Hold up, this was not a diss to Mechanics! I have a lot of respect for all Mechanics. Here's what happend, I spent $3300 having them put the motor I wanted put in, the original quote was $2500, they rebuilt a motor from a 69' but the block didn't line up so the starter wouldn't work. I had to take it back three times, it's there now. I went back this morning and he pretty much told me to get the f@@k out because he was busy, even though he drops whatever he's doing to talk to any female that stops by. When this whole thing started he told me to come down whenever I wanted, he even asked me to come down to help out a little, paint the motor and clean up the frame, stuff like that. At first he was really into showing me what was going into the engine and how everthing worked. I didn't want to be there in the first place today, I had to get to work, the only reason I was there is because one of the other Mechanics told me that he would give me a ride. I just wanted to ask one simple question, why the brand new starter didn't work and He went off on me saying while I was at home having a beer every night he was under a f@@king car and I could hang out if I wanted to fix it myself. It's funny, he was really nice before I paid him all of that money. He works on all of my friends cars/trucks and most of the time he's a really nice guy, it really ruined my day. I was just venting people, he invites me down and then gets pissed that I'm there and for $3300 he could at least awnser one question. Like I said, I was just venting.

True enough, I'd be pissed as well. A mechanic should always have time for the customer, they pay the bills. I didnt take it as an insult just was wondering what went worng.

I agree. He sounds like an ass. Get a couple of your buddies who know lots about engines and have them go down there with ya. Then lets see what kind of excuses he gives you.
I sympathize with ya, it sounds like he is giving us all a bad name. ------------------ Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada

Sorry to hear about your troubles,& I would be aggravated also. Your mechanic evidently missed something......you can hear an improperly shimmed starter 1/2 a block away! The difference in yrs on the block is not where the problem is coming from.....its the difference in machining tolorances from the factory,& if the flex plate isnt chewed up, shimming should solve the problem....that should have been part of the job. As another thought,I have seen the rear bushing go bad for no apparent reason on a rebuilt starter,so its up to the mechanic to sort it out.a good mechanic will make it right. good luck......69 longhorn.

i didnt take as a insult, being in the trade you just kinda want to know. if you came to my shop and spent 3300 bucks i would be kissing your a$$. skirt or pants does not matter, paying the bills and repeat costomers is why we work on all sh%t boxs every day. just my 2 cents. ------------------ 72BLUE C10 SWB 86BLUE K10 LWB 87RED S10 SWB 89RED S10 SWB |

I agree with blue 72...if it wasnt for the customer all of us mechanics would be standing around with our thumbs you know where. 3 grand is a lot of cash and he should be willing to help without hesitation.doesn't he provide any warranty on his work???

I'M NOT SURE I AM SAYING THIS RIGHT "PRE-MADONA" IS THE WAY TO DESCRIBE THEM. AS AN EX-SERVICE MANAGER (13YRS), THERE IS A REASON THAT "MECHANICS" SHOULD STICK TO "FIXING" CARS AND "MANAGERS" SHOULD TALK WITH PUBLIC. MY 2CENTS

Try Smitty's, it's also on Adams Ave, they work on mostly old cars and trucks, I hear they are pretty good.
